The Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering’s (CIMarE) annual, national technical conference, Mari-Tech 2017, was held in Montreal, in mid April 2017. By all measures, a great success for all. A very busy exhibition hall was well attended, a rich technical program was presented, with ample networking opportunities, and special addresses by “movers and shakers”, such as the Federal Minister of Transport, the Hon. Marc Garneau.

Congratulations to the organizing committee from the host branch, the St Lawrence Branch, and National CIMarE Council, for such a great success.

With the end of Mari-Tech 2017, planing for the next Mari-Tech is well underway. The volunteer organizing committee from Mari-Tech 2018 or MT18, the Vancouver Island Branch, has already gathered for numerous meetings and planning is underway. Led by our Chairperson, Sam Johnson, the committee is a seasoned group of volunteers, who are accomplished professionals in the local Marine Industry, but who also donate their time and energy to the success of Mari-Tech 2018. The Vancouver Island Branch has produced past Mari-Tech conferences (2004, 2011), and other themed conferences, notably, High Speed Vessel Conference (1999), Green Marine (2009), The New Wave (2014); as a group, it has considerable experience hosting such conference.

We are excited, and look forward to the challenge of making MT18 a must attend event for you, as a Marine Professionals involved in naval, governmental and commercial ship operation, building and designing.
